winter passing

I took Heather to the local skating rink for a couple of hours on the ice.  She’s so cute the way she walks around the rink, but it works for her and she seems to fall down less and less.  We met lots of other school kids and parents there as we are all on school holidays right now.

The afternoon was quite bright and not cold so we headed out to the garden which looks accusingly neglected.  There is hardly any snow left to cover up my Fall laziness.  I defensively think about the winter birds that might benefit from my un-gardening.  We took the wheelbarrow and clippers and attacked some of the foliage that was left to rot in the upright position.  Heather, in-between bouts of running very quickly up and down the drive-way (new sneakers), was helpful in pulling out the piles of dead stuff.  She seemed quite satisfied with the amount we got done.  So was I, but I also see there is so much more yet to do.

Dinner might have been an omlette but I got a hankering for steak.  I rarely eat red meat, but sometimes, if the mood strikes, it must be done.  Jay and I set to making a dinner that truly satisfied.  I even set the table and took a picture for you.  Silly stuff you do when you have a blog!

Ooh, and my favorite way to eat asparagus is to coat them in some olive oil, brown sugar and garlic.  Place the stalks directly on the BBQ over a low flame and turn until cooked.  Then squeeze some lemon juice over them.  Devine.

  1. Everything is melting here too! Don’t know that its the end of winter though…. we haven’t even hit March yet.
I like to leave everything covered in dead stuff until all the snows gone, I feel like I’m protecting my little bulbs….. don’t know that I am though :)

  2. You live in such a beautiful part of the world. And your way of cooking asparagus sounds fantastic – they should be appearing here soon so I’ll give it a go once I find some British asparagus to buy. Juliex
